Rewear

AI-assisted outfit planner — suggestions only. You make the final call.

About Rewear

Rewear helps one person plan outfits from clothes they already own, and think twice before buying more. The AI does the combinations; you keep taste, dress-code judgement and spending decisions.

What the AI does

  • Drafts tags (type, colour, formality, warmth, notes) from a photo of one garment.
  • Suggests up to three outfits from your catalogue for an occasion, temperature and dress code.
  • Shows how something you’re considering overlaps with what you own, with an estimate of new combinations.
  • As Hem, Rewear’s AI stylist, refines a plan in conversation. Hem is an AI persona, not a person.
  • Summarises trends from recent Australian fashion media (ELLE, marie claire and Who What Wear Australia), linking every trend to its source articles and suggesting ways to wear it with what you own.

What the AI must not do

  • Use items that aren’t in your catalogue.
  • Tell you to buy or not buy anything, or comment on price.
  • Give body-shape, size, fit or “flattering” advice.
  • Save anything on its own.
  • Treat trends as advice to buy: there are no shopping links, and trends come only from the linked articles.

When it hands over to you

  • Unclear dress codes and high-stakes occasions get a “Your call” note saying what to check.
  • Every tag is a draft until you press Save. Fields you change are marked “edited”.
  • Purchase checks end with “This is information, not a recommendation. Your call.”
  • The temperature is filled from a forecast but stays editable; if you type your own, yours is used. You choose the venue from search results.
  • A venue only hints at formality. Your chosen dress code always wins, and a mismatch gets a “Your call” note.

How you can tell the AI is involved

Everything the AI produced carries an oxblood label such as AI suggestion. The footer shows the prompt version, and the session log lists every AI call with its inputs and raw output.

Your data

  • Photos are never stored on a server. Your browser re-encodes each one (removing location data) and sends it once to the AI to draft tags.
  • If you choose, a small copy of an item’s photo is kept in this browser only (IndexedDB) so outfits can show the real garment. It is never uploaded. Remove photos any time in Wardrobe; items without a photo show a colour silhouette.
  • Items you add are kept in this browser only. There are no accounts and no database.
  • Your approximate area comes from your internet connection (via Vercel) and is used only to fetch a forecast; it isn’t stored. “Use my current location” asks your browser first.
  • Venue searches go to OpenStreetMap (Nominatim); forecast requests send coordinates to Open-Meteo. Both requests come from Rewear’s server, not your browser.
  • Text and photos you submit are sent to Google’s Gemini API to generate responses. On its free tier, Google may use submitted content to improve its services, so don’t upload anything private.

About this prototype

A student prototype for UNSW INFS5706 AI in Action, using a third-party AI API (Google Gemini). Built with AI assistance (Claude Code). Suggestions can be wrong, so check them.
